OUR STORY
Built to Bring the World to Atlanta
The Atlanta Sports Council (ASC), a 501 (c)6, has spent more than four decades positioning Atlanta as one of the world’s premier destinations for sports and major events.
Since its founding in 1985, the organization has worked to attract, secure, and organize major global sporting events that generate economic impact, elevate the region’s profile, and create lasting benefits for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.
At the core of the ASC’s mission is the recruitment of the world’s most prestigious sporting events. Working alongside local, state and regional partners, the ASC leads competitive bid efforts, coordinates host committee operations underneath their Championship Hosting Division and ensures Atlanta delivers exceptional experiences for athletes, fans, media and event organizers. This collaborative approach has helped Atlanta earn a reputation as one of the most trusted and capable host cities in the world.
A Proven Sports Destination
The ASC’s efforts have resulted in an unparalleled portfolio of events, including the FIFA World Cup 2026™, Super Bowl LIII, College Football Playoff National Championships, NCAA Men’s Final Fours, NBA All-Star Game, MLB All-Star Game, WrestleMania and many other premier events over the course of 40 years. Looking ahead, the organization will host Super Bowl LXII in 2028 and the 2031 NCAA Men’s Final Four, both of which will take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The ASC is also plans to pursue the 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup, should the United States be awarded hosting rights for the event.
Beyond the economic impact these events generate, the ASC believes sports have the power to unite communities, inspire future generations and showcase Atlanta’s culture, hospitality and innovation on a global stage. Every successful event strengthens relationships with governing bodies, rights holders and corporate partners while creating opportunities for local businesses, volunteers, and the region’s tourism industry.
Impact Beyond the Event
Today, Atlanta’s leadership in sports is recognized far beyond the playing field. In 2026, Sports Business Journal named Atlanta the No. 1 Best Sports Business City in the United States, recognizing the region’s world-class venues, collaborative leadership, corporate community and unmatched portfolio of major sporting events. That distinction reflects decades of vision, investment and partnership efforts the ASC has helped lead since its founding. As the organization looks ahead, the ASC remains committed to recruiting the world’s most prestigious sporting events, creating meaningful economic impact and ensuring Atlanta continues to set the standard as one of the world’s leading major event destinations.
